An Optimization-Based System Dynamics Simulation for Sustainable Policy Design in WEEE Management Systems

The increase in the use of electrical and electronic devices worldwide has created a rapid growth waste equipment (WEEE). current paper presents an optimization-based simulation (OBS) approach that allows design sustainable WEEE management system policies. proposed OBS integrates dynamics (SD) model mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) to improve representation performance processes considering their operative strategic interdependence. SD component elicits complexity generation process. Complementarily, MINLP periodically optimizes key variables system. Computational results case study based on from Colombian mobile phones illustrates how solely is unable capture operative-strategic nature perform optimal parameter updates. By contrast, this outperforms exclusive analysis both economic environmental It obtains 33% more profits 65% benefits. Moreover, for study, suggests cornerstone increasing its replacement rate.
